Botox Cosmetic:

     Botulinum toxin (most commonly known in the US as Botox) is a natural, purified protein with the ability to interrupt the chemical messages released by nerve endings.  Botox Cosmetic is the only FDA approved treatment for temporary reduction of moderate to severe frown lines.

     The lines that appear between your brows actually are a result from muscle movement and the passage of time when the muscles contract, they draw they brows together.  As the skin become less elastic overtime, repeated frowning can result in those moderate to severe lines between your brows.

     Botox cosmetic works by blocking nerve impulses, which reduces the movement of those muscles.  With less movement, the skin surface gradually smoothes out and the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows slowly begin to fade.

     Botox Cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive treatment.  Your doctor makes a few tiny injections into the muscles that cause the stubborn lines.  Within days there is a noticeable improvement where wrinkles once resided.  There is no recovery or down time and results last up to four months.

Hyperhidrosis: excessive sweating of the palms, feet or underarms.

     For hyperhidrosis, botulinum toxin works by blocking the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.  Using botulinum toxin to alleviate the symptoms of hyperhidrosis is a promising new approach. Research has shown that treating armpit, hand, facial, and gustatory (related to salivation or eating) hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin is safe and effective. In recent studies, when botulinum toxin was injected into under arm areas affected by hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating was relieved for an average of seven months. And 28% of those studied, the anhidrosis (or lack of sweating) lasted sixteen months.

     When treatment of underarm hyperhidrosis with topical antiperspirants has been unsuccessful, botulinum toxin is a highly effective and convenient alternative. The injections can be performed in a physicians office, require little time, and do not demand any restrictions in work or leisure activity (aside from refraining from intensive exercise or the use of a sauna on the day of the injections).
